Filming My First Indian Hindu Wedding. I'm Really Proud Of This One You Guys!

August 10, 2017

Earlier this year in May, I had the honor taking part in a traditional Indian Hindu Wedding for my friends Sam & Sarika in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Back up a couple of years. I met both Sam & Sarika in college. We all went to architecture school together at USF, and basically all of the SACD alumni are part of one big network and family. I hadn't really hung out with them much while we were in school, but word spread that I was doing wedding videography after college, so they reached out to me to see if I wanted the gig. They were one of the first couples I ever booked and they had faith that I would create something epic for them, even though I only had like 2 wedding films in my portfolio at the time.

Fast forward to the 3-day event down in Fort Lauderdale. This Wedding was both physically and mentally strenuous, but also a crazy-amazing time.

Day 1: Was pretty chill and relaxed. All of the bridesmaids got Henna done, the photographer and I got some pics with Sam & Sarika, I got my drone shots out of the way in the evening, and then we went back to the hotel to rest up for the next 2 days

Day 2: Ceremony Day! This day was by far the most stressful and the longest. We got there pretty early to capture Sarika and her bridesmaids getting ready, but we had PLENTY of time to get creative shots of details, Sam getting ready, the clothes, jewelry, etc. We didn't feel rushed at all. I would take a long day over feeling rushed. Sam & Sarika decided to do a first look, which I"m ALWAYS up for! After that the ceremony and precession began. Their ceremony wasn't a FULL BLOWN Hindu Indian ceremony (which are around 3 hours long) but was a kind-of compact version at about an hour and half.

Day 3: Reception/Kentucky Derby/Party Day! This day was CRAZY! Literally, I've never partied this hard at a Wedding. Long story short, I was in the hot tub by the end of the night LOL. But earlier in the evening were a lot of traditional Wedding Events like toasts/speeches, cake cutting, first dances, etc. The super fun part about this day was Sarika had planned their Wedding date around the Kentucky Derby because her family was serious about horse racing (I think they used to raise race horses?), so everyone wore big hats and crowded around the tiki bar outside to watch the race. After the race I also got everyone gathered around Sarika to get a drone shot from above of all the hats, super creative shot if I do say so myself!

Anyway, I couldn't have been more thrilled to be a part of Sam & Sarika's Wedding and I can easily say that I've made some new friends through this entire journey. They are such an amazing couple who have been through some trials in life together, but have been there for each other through it all. Filming their Wedding and creating their Wedding Film has been one of those Weddings that makes me realize how much I love what I do. They are truly one of the sweetest couples I have the honor of knowing and I can't wait to see what the future holds for them both.

Without further ado...make sure you grab your tissues, open up a bottle of wine, and pop some popcorn while you enjoy Sam & Sarika's extended highlight film:
